I saw a statement of what the French did in Algiers and the element of Nazi collaboration in the film. We all have to remember that every viewer of art brings their own personal experiences to a it. I enjoyed that this film played the angle very differently. I found the torture motivations in martyrs much more interesting. I am not much of a fan of films like hostel, guinea pig experiments, and saw.
I will admit the blending of subgenres was a bit choppy. I have to respectfully disagree with you about martyrs. Both are only acting purely on biological, instinctive drives. That's why the boys and the zombie girl all seem so similar. That was my takeaway - without hope for the future, human beings are nothing but animals, and will act as such. Without that sense of hopeless - if any of those boys had seen themselves as having a future, and if girls had seemed in anyway obtainable to them, either in then or in the future - the boys in this movie would have behaved very differently. IF they end up in jail, they miss out on nothing - years spend being shat on in go-nowhere jobs and maybe a divorce or two. As one of the characters points out to the jocks, they literally have nothing to lose. The main message I got from Deadgirl is that young men, particularly young men who come from low economic and social standing, feel massively hopeless in our society. I think a lot of people on reddit watch that movie and think, 'Of course young men are evil, lulz' because of the strong presence of SRS types on here. Srpski Film (aka A Serbian Film) generated no small amount of controversy following its first American screenings at the 2010 South by Southwest Film Festival.And hopelessness.

Milos ( Srdjan Todorovic) was once a star in pornographic movies, well known for his ability to perform longer than any of his peers, but he gave up his career and now lives a quiet life with his wife and young son. Filmmaker Srdjan Spasojevic pushes the boundaries of what can (or should) be shown onscreen in this violent and malignly erotic thriller.
